BBC iPlayer on your TiVo box
Using BBC iPlayer
BBC iPlayer is available to everyone on the TiVo service and there are two ways to access it. Simply press the Red Button to access BBC iPlayer when watching BBC channels. Or press , select Apps & Games and then BBC iPlayer.
Using iPlayer is easy. With your remote control browse or search BBC iPlayer for the programme you're after - iPlayer will also show you a list of your recent searches so you can easily watch a programme again. When you select a programme you'll see a brief description of it, if you want to play it select Watch Now.
Once the programme starts playing, you can use your remote to play, pause and stop. The fast forward and rewind buttons on your remote work slightly differently to normal – pressing fast forward will skip forward within the programme, and pressing rewind will skip back. The progress bar will be shown on screen so you know where you are.
Pressing ‘OK’ when a programme is playing will bring up the ‘Transport Bar’, which has additional options available. From here you can turn Subtitles on or off, select whether to watch the HD version of the programme (if available) and find more information about the programme you are currently watching. To access any of these options, use the arrow keys on your remote until the option is highlighted, and then press ‘OK’. You can also use the Transport bar to play, pause, stop and fast forward/rewind the programme.
Where available, iPlayer will also show you other episodes in the series for the programme you are watching along with related programmes you may find interesting. To access these recommendations, press ‘Up’ on your remote until the ‘Related TV’ bar displays. You can then choose another programme to watch, or press ‘Down’ to hide the ‘Related TV’ bar.
How do I use Parental Controls in BBC iPlayer?
When you first come across a guidance-labelled programme you will be asked to confirm that you are over 16 years old and if you want to set up the Parental Guidance Lock.
If you do want to set up a lock you’ll be asked to create a PIN which you will be asked for whenever you want to watch a guidance-labelled programme.
Even if you have already set up Parental Controls for your TiVo box you will also need to set this up yourself in BBC iPlayer. We recommend that you use your normal four-digit TiVo PIN.
To turn off Parental Guidance Lock go to the settings menu in BBC iPlayer and select the Parental Guidance option. You will be asked to enter your PIN again to turn off the lock.
What happens if I forget my PIN for BBC iPlayer?
If you forget your PIN we'll ask you to answer your security question which you will have setup when creating your PIN. If you can't remember the answer you'll need to reset your PIN.
Does BBC iPlayer affect my broadband connection?
The BBC iPlayer is played out to you through a dedicated TiVo connection in your TiVo box.
Is there Red Button on my TiVo box?
On TiVo, we've currently got a Red Button service across Sky Sports and all of the BBC TV and radio channels. We’re also working with our channel partners to get the Red Button extended to other channels. You can check our progress in the Customer News area in Help on our TiVo boxes or by going online to by going online to virginmedia.com/myvm.
At the moment, you can only access some BBC Red Button/Interactive services if you have a V+ HD, V HD or V box. If you are looking for content you would normally find on BBC Red Button/Interactive services, you may find this on BBC iPlayer after the event has finished.
I’ve got a V+/ VHD or V box – does this affect the way I find BBC Catch Up?
Virgin Media customers with a V+ HD, V HD or a V box boxes won’t see any change to the way they find BBC Catch Up, this is only on our TiVo boxes.
