How do I connect a Windows Vista PC to my Virgin Media Hub/Super Hub's wireless network?
Before you can make a wireless connection to the Hub/Super Hub, make sure that it is properly connected and powered up. Please read the relevant setup guide if you're not sure how to get started:
The following steps assume that you have a wireless adapter built in to your computer or laptop. If you use an external wireless adapter, follow the instructions that came with it in order to make a connection, using the settings below. If you use a WPS-compatible wireless adapter (such as our Push2Sync USB adapter), please follow this guide.
Watch our ‘How to’ video on connecting a Windows Vista PC to your Super Hub:
Going wireless on Windows Vista
The quickest way to connect to a wireless network is to use the relevant icon in the system tray. If you can see the network symbol, right-click it and select Connect to a network.
Alternatively, go to Start > Connect To.
Whichever method you used, Windows will now show you all available wireless networks, along with information about the security and signal strength of those networks. If you don't see any wireless networks listed, make sure that the Show dropdown menu is set either to All or to Wireless.
The Hub/Super Hub should appear in the list as virginmediaxxxxxxx, where each x represents a digit. This network name (known as the SSID) can also be found printed on the side or back of the device.
Click the network name and then click Connect.
You should then be prompted for the network security key. The default network security key is printed on the side or back of the device – look for the item labelled 'Passphrase'.

Enter the network security key (Passphrase) and then click Connect. To see the network security key on the screen as you type it, tick the box labelled Display characters.
Once your network security key has been accepted, you will be connected to your wireless network. When prompted, choose to save the network settings and choose Home as the type of connection.
Launch Internet Explorer (or your preferred Web browser).
If you are prompted to make a dial-up connection, you will need to make a slight adjustment to your browser settings. See How to set up the computer web browser for more information.
Note: if you're setting up the Hub/Super Hub for the very first time, you'll need to activate your broadband account before you can start surfing the Web. Once you've completed the above steps, simply launch a Web browser and go to this address:
Once your account has been activated, you'll be ready to start using your connection. Congratulations – that's it!
