What is Web Safe and how does it work?

The web is such an important part of our lives. We can do everything from shopping for the latest bargains to catching up on last night’s TV online nowadays! And it seems that the whole family are getting involved too – following their football team, looking up their favourite pop stars, chatting to friends, maybe even using it to help with their homework (well, you never know!). But, as useful and exciting as the web is, it has its risks.

Web Safe combines the following features to protect any device that’s connected to your Virgin Media home network to help keep you, your family and your gadget’s safe:

Child Safe

When you activate Child Safe, malicious or content unsuitable to children will automatically be blocked including: pornography, violence, crime, self-harm, hate, suicide, drugs and hacking crime.

Our customisable Child Safe filters allow you to block or allow individual sites and site categories and set a timer to switch Web Safe off for a period of time. See 'More About Child Safe' for details

Virus Safe

Virus Safe helps to protect against websites that may be fraudulent or contain viruses.

By activating Web Safe, any device that you use to connect to the internet via your Virgin Media broadband within your home will be protected, including:

  • PCs
  • Laptops
  • Tablets
  • Games consoles
  • Mobile phones

- but only while they’re connected to the internet through your Virgin Media home broadband connection.

There’s nothing to download or install because Web Safe works automatically. You don’t need to do a thing!
