Programming your remote using a code search

The simplest way to programme your V6 remote to work with your TV is by searching for the correct code.

    1. Make sure your TV and your V6 box are switched on
    2. Press and hold down Clear and TV at the same time, until the light on the top of the remote flashes green twice
    3. Enter the code 0999 to access the TV code database - the LED will flash green twice
    4. Press Channel Up repeatedly until a code turns off your TV - the LED will flash green each time a code is sent
    5. When your TV turns off, use your TV remote to turn your TV back on
    6. Press Volume Up / Down and Mute to check that the remote is working with your TV. If it isn't working continue to search using Channel Up until the next code turns off the TV, and repeat steps 5 and 6
    7. When the Volume and Mute keys work, press OK to store the code. The LED will then flash green twice

If you reach the end of the code database, the light on top of the remote will give an extended red flash and exit programming mode.

If you think you’ve missed the code, you can work backwards through the code database by pressing the Channel Down button at any time.

Once you’ve set up your V6 remote to control the volume and mute on your TV, some TVs will support control of the standby function too. To check this, just press and hold Standby for more than 5 seconds and then release, and your TV should turn off. Repeat this to turn your TV back on. If this doesn’t work correctly, then you’ll need to use your TV remote to turn your TV on and off.

Programming your remote using a device code

If you’ve been unable to programme your remote by searching for the correct code, you can also programme the correct code into your remote from the device code list.

    1. Make sure your TV and your V6 box are switched on
    2. Find your make of TV and the 4 digit code(s) that match it here. If there‘s more than one code for your TV make, try the codes in the order listed
    3. Press and hold down Clear and TV at the same time, until the light on the top of the remote flashes green twice
    4. Enter the four digit code for your TV's make from the list. The LED should then flash green twice. This shows you’ve entered a valid code
    5. Press Volume Up / Down and Mute to check that the remote is working. If not, repeat the steps above using a different code for your TV from the list
    6. Once you’ve programmed your remote you’ll notice that the light on the top will flash green instead of red when using it for volume and mute control

The remote can only store one device code type at a time, so you can’t control more than one TV, unless each TV works with the same code.

If you have your V6 box connected to external AV equipment you can programme your V6 remote to control the volume on your equipment

Programming your remote using a code search

The simplest way to programme your V6 remote to work with your AV device is by searching for the correct code.

    6. Press Volume Up / Down and Mute to check that the remote is working with your device. If it doesn’t work, continue to search using Channel Up until the next code turns off the volume, and repeat steps 5 and 6

Programming your remote using a device code

If you’ve got a V6 remote with a black Virgin Media logo and you’ve been unable to programme your remote by searching for the correct code, you can also programme the correct code into your remote from the device code list. This doesn’t work if your remote has a white Virgin Media logo.

    1. Make sure your AV device and your V6 box are switched on
    2. Find your make of AV device and the 4 digit code(s) that match it here. If there‘s more than one code for your AV device, try the codes in the order listed
    3. Press and hold down Clear and press Volume Up at the same time, until the light on the top of the remote flashes green twice
    4. Enter the four digit code for your AV device's make from the list. The LED should then flash green twice. This shows you’ve entered a valid code
    5. Press Volume Up / Down and Mute to check that the remote is working. If not, repeat the steps above using a different code for your AV device from the list

The remote can only store one device code type at a time. This means that you can’t control an two AV devices at the same time.

Your V6 remote can talk to your V6 box in two ways:

    • Radio - this means that your remote doesn't have to be pointing at your V6 box to work
    • Infra-red - this means that your remote has to be in line of sight of your V6 box to work

Your V6 remote should automatically be paired with the box to work with radio when set up. If you're having problems with your remote, it might be that it's not paired and you're using Infra-red instead.

To pair your V6 remote to your V6 box:

    Using your V6 remote:

    1. Go to Home > Help & Settings > Settings > Devices > Remote Control Pairing
    2. Press and hold the Info button for 7 seconds until the light at the top of the remote goes solid green then flashes green twice

Or, by using the V6 box and remote:

    1. Press the Channel Down button on the front of the V6 box for 10 seconds
    2. Then, hold the Info button down on the remote for 7 seconds. The light on the top of the remote will flash green twice

If the top of the remote flashes red twice the pairing hasn’t worked. Move closer to the V6 box and give it another go.

NOTE: The older TiVo remotes can't use radio, but will work with the V6 box using Infra-red.

To clear your changes and reset your Virgin TV remote to its original settings:

    1. Press and hold down Clear and TV on the remote at the same time until the light on the top of the remote flashes green twice
    2. Press Thumbs Down three times, then press OK
    3. The LED will flash green four times and exit programming mode

We’ve found a compatibility issue between LG TVs and the Type 11 remote control that means programming the remote could put your LG TV into ‘engineering mode’, stopping you using your TV.

You can continue to use our remote with your V, V HD or V+ HD box, but you will need to use the remote that came with your LG TV to control the volume and standby functions on the TV.

This compatibility issue doesn’t affect our V6 or TiVo boxes.

If your TV is connected to your Set-Top Box by HDMI, you can skip straight to step 4.

    1. Press and hold the *(STAR) and TV buttons on your remote control for a few seconds until the light flashes twice
