How to check a XP computer for automatic IP addressing

To check that your Windows XP computer is set up to obtain an IP address automatically:

1.  From the Start menu, select Control Panel, as shown below:



2.  Double-click Network and Internet Connections.



3.  Right-click Local Area Connection and select Properties.



4.  From the Networking tab, click on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) text, and make sure the check box is ticked. Click on Properties.



The following screen displays:



5.  Make sure that Obtain an IP Address automatically, and Obtain DNS server address automatically are both ticked, and then click OK.

That's it. Your PC is set up to obtain an IP address
