How to check for a dial tone

To make sure that the telephone socket that your modem is connected to has a dial tone, plug a telephone directly into the phone socket, and lift the receiver.

If you don’t hear a dial tone, go to Error 680 – No Dial Tone, and follow the steps to try and fix the problem.

If you hear a dial tone, go to the next step

If you are still having problems then you can contact us on 0845 454 2222* from any phone or if you don't have access to a working phone, go to our service status area.
