Dial Up Connection

How to set up a dialler on Windows Vista

To create a dialler, do the following on a Windows Vista computer:

1.  From your desktop, click on Start and then click on Control Panel. The following window displays:

If your screen does not look like this, make sure Classic View is selected in the left column.

2.  Click on Network and Sharing Center.

The Network and Sharing Center screen displays.

3.  In the Tasks column on the left, click on Set up a connection or network.

The following screen displays:

4.  Click on Set up a dial-up connection. The following screen displays:

5.  Enter one of the following telephone numbers in the Dial-up phone number text area.

If you’re a Virgin Media pay as you go customers, enter: 0844 0544 020

If you’re a Virgin Media 24seven customers, enter your supplied number. If you can’t remember what this is, call your support number or contact customer services.

Note: If you're a 24seven customer, and you want to withhold your telephone number when you make calls, then you’ll need to include the prefix 1470 before the Telephone number you enter here. This applies whether you use 141, or if you've withheld your number by arrangement with BT. If you don't include 1470 here, your number will be withheld from us.

6.  In the User name and Password text boxes, carefully type in your Virgin Media user name and password (you received these with your Welcome pack).

7.  In the Connection name text box, type a name for your connection (for example, Virgin Media). This can be any name that makes the connection recognisable to you – it does not affect the operation of your connection.

8.  Optional

If you want to, you can also complete some or all of the optional settings on this screen. These are:

The Show characters text box – this displays your password in text instead of inserting a symbol for each character. We don’t recommend you use this option, as it reduces the security of your connection.

The Remember this password text box – this remembers your password, so that you do not have to type it in each time you use this connection.

The Allow other people to use this connection check box – this is only needed if more than one user is going to use the same connection, for example other members of your family have their own user profile.

9.  Click on Create when you have completed this screen. You will receive confirmation that the connection has been created.

That’s it! As we mentioned above, you only need to do this once to set up your connection. Now, anytime you want to get online, simply double-click on the Internet Explorer icon on the desktop.
