How to report newsgroups abuse

Like email abuse, newsgroup abuse can take many forms. Copyright breaches, commercial postings, cross posting, postings containing abusive or offensive content and viruses are some of the forms of newsgroup abuse which are often encountered by newsgroup users.

The format for submitting reports to the abuse department regarding abuse of newsgroups is always the same, whatever the offence.

What to include in a report

  • The header of the newsgroup posting. The newsgroup posting header enables us to determine the account that a posting was made from. Understandably, the header is vital to any investigation that we conduct into an incident.
  • The content of the newsgroup posting. This allows us to determine the nature of the abuse and allows us to decide if any other abuse of the service has occurred in addition to the abuse being reported.
  • A brief description of why you wish to make the report.
