How to set up the broadband modem connection using USB

To connect your computer to the modem over USB:

  1. Connect the modem to the “box in the wall” using the coax cable.
The coax cable is a thick white cable with a screw type fixing on the end, connected to the box on the wall. Make sure the coax cable is connected securely to the appropriate socket on the cable modem.

Note: The device shown is a modem. These instructions are the same if you have a set top box.

  2. Connect your computer to the modem using the USB lead.
Make sure that the USB lead is connected to the appropriate socket on the cable modem, and your computer. Do not try and force the plugs - they should fit easily and securely.

  3. Connect the power adapter to the cable modem, and plug it in to the mains socket. Switch on the mains socket, if applicable.

Your broadband equipment should look something like this when connected:

If the leads are securely connected, the cable modem will attempt to connect to the network.
