What are the limitations on email size, recipients & attachment types in Virgin Media Mail?
The new Virgin Media Mail platform introduces many great benefits, including very generous allowances for e-mail storage and attachment sizes. We can offer this enhanced service thanks to our relationship with Google, who we've worked with to create the new e-mail platform.
Here's a summary of what's on offer as part of the new Virgin Media Mail service:
Mailbox size
Each mailbox in Virgin Media Mail allows you to store over 7GB of messages, and this limit is increasing all the time.Maximum e-mail attachment size
You can send and receive e-mails with attachments of up to 20MB in size. Note that your contacts may be using e-mail systems that can't handle such large message sizes, so keep this in mind when sending attachmentsIf someone tries to send you a message larger than 20MB, the message will be returned to the sender.
Maximum number of recipients
If you use Virgin Media Mail through a Web browser, you should be able to send to up to 500 recipients at a time. If you use an e-mail client (e.g., Windows Mail) instead, you should be able to send to up to 100 recipients at a timePlease remember that the recipients of your messages should be willing to receive e-mail from you. Virgin Media does not condone the sending of unsolicited e-mail (commonly referred to as 'spam').
If you exceed the sending limit, there is a chance that your account will be locked, temporarily preventing you from sending messages through the Virgin Media mail server.
Which e-mail attachment file types are blocked?
To protect you from potential viruses, Virgin Media Mail does not allow the sending or receiving of executable files (such as files ending in '.exe') that might contain damaging code.
Neither do we allow other file types that commonly contain harmful code. The following file types are blocked:
"ade", "adp", "bat", "chm", "cmd", "com", "cpl", "exe","hta", "ins", "isp", "jse", "lib", "mde", "msc", "msp","mst", "pif", "scr", "sct", "shb", "sys", "vb", "vbe","vbs", "vxd", "wsc", "wsf", "wsh".
Virgin Media Mail won't accept these types of files even if they are sent in a zipped (.zip, .tar, .tgz, .taz, .z, .gz) format.
This list may be amended from time to time in response to specific threats or viruses in circulation, in order to give you the best protection we can from malicious software. If this type of file is sent to your Virgin Media Mail account the message is bounced back to the sender automatically.
