Why do I need Virgin Media Security Anti-Malware?

Anti-virus and anti-spyware are basic must-haves for anyone using broadband. Virgin Media Security includes both anti-virus and anti-spyware in one tool called Anti-Malware, providing greater security. Virgin Media Anti-Malware is powered by the market-leading security providers Trend-Micro.

Virgin Media Security Anti-Malware

The Anti-Malware service gives you protection from millions of known viruses, worms, Trojans and malicious spyware by:

  • Running in the background, automatically scanning for infections each time a file is accessed, including from email
  • Allowing you to schedule regular scans of your computer
  • Allowing you to scan your computer on demand, whenever you think a malicious program may be installed
  • Allowing you to scan individual files for viruses easily, using Windows Explorer

Using Virgin Media Security Anti-Malware

Virgin Media Security comes with Anti-Malware already turned 'on' and will pick up any viruses that appear as you use your computer. It is highly recommended that you run a full system scan as soon as Virgin Media Security is installed, ensuring you pick up any dormant viruses that may already be residing there.

Automatic updates

To make sure you are constantly protected against new threats, our virus definitions database is continuously updated with the latest virus information. Virgin Media Security checks for the latest virus and spyware updates immediately after being installed and continues to check every three hours. All software updates are sent to your computer automatically.

Scanning options

Virgin Media Security Anti-Malware offers several options to scan your computer for viruses and other malware, including.

  • Automatic real-time scanning of your computer
  • Manual full scan
  • Manual quick scan
  • Manual custom scan

By default, real-time scanning is turned on so it runs transparently in the background to protect your computer all the time.
