How to enable the Ethernet port in Windows Vista

Here’s how to check that the Ethernet port is enabled in Windows Vista:

To check that your Vista PC is set up to obtain an IP address automatically:

1.  From your desktop, click on Start and then click on Control Panel. The following window displays:



2.  Click on Network and Sharing Center.



The Network and Sharing Center screen displays.

3.  In the Tasks column on the left, click on Manage network connections.



The Network Connection window opens.

4.  Look for the Local Area Connection icon. If it’s shown as being Disabled, right-click on the icon and a sub-menu opens. When it does, select Enable.

5.  Close the window and check the light again.
